Favoritism privacy policy.

This policy explains how Favoritism handles data for the website, desktop app, and browser extension. Last updated July 15, 2026.

What Favoritism is for

Favoritism is a local-first web library for saving and organizing web content you choose to keep. The desktop app stores and organizes your library on your device, and the browser extension exists to save or capture selected web content into that library.

Data the desktop app handles

Local library content

The desktop app stores your saved items, captures, notes, metadata, thumbnails, imported files, media files, and local file paths in your Favoritism library on your device.

Account and license status

When you sign in or use paid features, the desktop app may contact Favoritism services to check account identity, license status, subscription state, quotas, and download eligibility.

AI and enrichment requests

When you use AI-assisted features, the desktop app sends only the selected item content, schema details, and evidence needed for that extraction or enrichment request.

Updates and download metadata

The desktop app may request app update metadata, release information, and short-lived download access from Favoritism services. If you install Favoritism from Microsoft Store, app updates are handled by Microsoft Store.

Data the browser extension handles

Pages and URLs you choose to save

When you save a page, post, PDF, image, video, or supported saved-items surface, the extension reads the URL, title, visible page metadata, selected page content, and the media needed to create the item in your Favoritism library.

HTTP/S website access

The extension requests access to HTTP/S websites because its core purpose is to save and capture content from arbitrary web pages you choose, without asking for a new site permission on every domain. It does not request non-web scheme access for generic saves.

Browser captures

When you choose a screenshot or recording action, the extension captures only the viewport, selected area, or full page you asked it to capture. Recordings continue until you stop them or the capture flow ends.

Authenticated saved content

For site-backed saves that need your logged-in browser session, the extension may read cookies or build authentication-related request headers for that site. This is used to save content you selected from your own browser session.

AI extraction evidence

When an AI-assisted Web type or Article save is used, Favoritism sends a compact page sample, schema details, and relevant evidence to the Favoritism AI service so it can suggest or fill structured fields.

How extension data is used

Extension data is used to provide and improve the single purpose of saving and capturing user-selected web content into Favoritism. This includes creating library items, downloading selected media when requested, filling structured fields, showing import status, and retaining an import backup if the desktop app is not reachable.

Cookies and authentication-related headers are used only for the specific logged-in save, continuation request, media recovery, or download that needs the current browser session. When a cookie jar is sent to the desktop app for a download, it is used for that immediate download flow and is not written into the archived import payload.

Where data is shared

Favoritism desktop app

Extension saves are handed to the Favoritism desktop app through the local bridge. The desktop app imports the item into your local library.

Favoritism service

Account, licensing, download, update, and AI-gateway requests are handled by Favoritism services. AI requests include the evidence needed for the requested extraction task.

Model provider for AI features

AI extraction requests may be sent by the Favoritism AI service to its configured model provider. Favoritism uses that provider only to provide the requested AI extraction or enrichment feature.

No sale or advertising use

Favoritism does not sell extension data, does not use it for advertising, and does not transfer it to data brokers.

Storage and retention

Saved items and captures are stored in your Favoritism desktop library on your device. The extension also uses Chrome local storage for preferences, recent save context, progress state, and recovery state needed to complete user-requested saves. Favoritism service logs are used for authentication, billing, licensing, security, debugging, quota enforcement, and reliability.

Website analytics and cookies

Favoritism may use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics on the website to understand page visits, plan-selection patterns, and whether checkout flows are working. Analytics runs only after you accept optional analytics cookies.

Website analytics events do not include your library content, saved items, account IDs, email addresses, payment details, Clerk identifiers, or Stripe identifiers. You can reject analytics or reopen cookie preferences from the website footer.

Desktop app updates

Favoritism for Windows is the desktop app, whether you install it from Microsoft Store or another Favoritism download. It stores your library on your device and may contact Favoritism services for account sign-in, license status, AI features, and download access where applicable. If you install it from Microsoft Store, app updates are handled by Microsoft Store.

Your controls

You choose when to save, capture, or run a bulk save. You can stop recordings from the popup or on-page recording controls, disable extension settings that change save behavior, delete items from your local Favoritism library, remove local library files from your device, sign out of Favoritism services, uninstall the browser extension, and uninstall the desktop app.

Chrome Web Store limited use disclosure

Favoritism uses information received from Chrome extension APIs only to provide or improve the extension's single purpose: saving and capturing user-selected web content into Favoritism. Favoritism's use of that information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
